With the rapid development of computer and communication technology, the telemedicine is rising rapidly. The dermatology is very suitable for long-distance medical treatment, the transmission of skin medical images in telemedicine plays a very important role in diagnoses. As the digitized image data is so large, it is necessary to reduce the transmission data of image by compression and the compression must ensure that the distortion is very small. And it is necessary that research and development of new and effective image coding method.Based on the importance of skin medical images to telemedicine and on the necessity and possibility of image compression, it introducts the Fourier transform first, and then introducts wavelet and wavelet transform. Wavelet transform is a time-scale analysis method. It has multi-resolution distinguishing features. It transforms between the space domain and frequency domain locally while dealing with and can be used to achieve the purpose of the image adaptive analysis. And then investigate the wavelet transform of skin medical images .Finally, it achieved the Wavelet transform and compression with the use of the MATLAB language program.
