It is an important way for dynamic surveillance of the on-orbit satellites from theinformation of the remote sensing images. This has become a hot international researchtopic. In domestic, along with series of the high resolution satellites come to use, more andmore people pay their attention to the remote sensing performance of the satellites. In the domain of the remote sensing application, the Modulation Transfer Function (MTF)is an important indicator of the digital imaging system. The height of the imaging system'sMTF directly affects the imagery quality. The lower MTF will lead to that the images losethe detail information; the edge and the texture of the images will be fuzzier. For theon-orbit satellite's imaging system, because of the satellite launching, many timesadjustment of the posture in the process of the track maintaining, the space radiation, andthe impact of the sharp changing of the diurnal temperature and so on, the remote sensingimagery performance can gradually descend; the quality of the remote sensing images canalso gradually descend. So it is very important to know how the MTF changes with time. This will be extremely helpful for the application of the on-orbit satellite's imaging system. With the basic principle of the MTF, this paper introduces several kinds of methods basedon the remote sensing images for calculating the MTF. Then, emphatically discusses theknife-edge method and the pulse method, and in detail, discusses the data sampling, interpolation and fitting, as well as the line spread function withdrawing. Finally discussescalculating the MTF. There are many factors affecting the MTF, with choosing theappropriate remote sensing images and making the synthetic images, this paper separatelydoes the experiments and discusses the influence factors of the different interpolationmethod, the sub-image cutting, and the noise.
