The invention of radar expands the human ability to observe environment around, especially the range of human vision. As the essential navigation equipment on ship, marine navigation radar has developed for decades from analog to digital, and the radar system has been installed on all kinds of ships.The technology of DSP and embedded system bring a band new opportunity for the further development of radar. Compared with traditional radar system, the most advantages of digital radar are better performance, more functions and easy for operation. Compared with analog devices, the DSP technology makes the radar system design simpler, more flexible and more efficient. Based on the high speed digital signal processors, it is efficient to sample and process the radar echoes, reject clutter and extract target information. Furthermore, it is proved that the design used DSP technology has better performance than analog device.Based on DSP and embedded techniques, this paper mainly describes a design of marine navigation radar system. And the software algorithm design and system design of DSP module is the emphasis of the paper. The operation principle of marine navigation radar is deeply analyzed in this project, including the basic principle of radio, impulse radar and radio-range orientation. On the basis of the principle, a comprehensive description of marine navigation radar system design is provided, including radar system function and the structure of upper-and-lower radar module. The design of DSP software is described in detail, including the software architecture and algorithm implement. Finally, a comprehensive test is employed on function, performance and stability of radar DSP module. A good test result has been achieved and the design of radar system meets the predefined requirement.
