With the development of Information Technology, the requirement for information resources has switched from text and image to audio and video, with much more requirements on real-time and interactivity in the process of retrieving multimedia resource. However, people are still discomfited by the long time waiting when downloading the multimedia file. In this condition, a new technology, named streaming media, comes up. With such advantages as short startup delay and little storage occupation on client, streaming media has become the customers' first preference, streaming media applications based on IP network gained rapid development throughout the world.H.264/AVC is a standard developed by the Joint Video Team(JVT) of ISO/IEC MPEG and ITU-T VCEG for the coding (compression) of natural video images, which is also known as MPEG-4 Part 10, "Advanced Video Coding". The technical design is highly focused on providing the two limited goals of high coding efficiency and robustness to network environments for conventional rectangular-picture camera-view video content. Recently, the standard has already received wide attention in the industry and academic study.This paper is based on the actuality of network and multimedia with the analysis of the mechanism and principle of current implementation of streaming protocols, and the problem of streaming media. Some research is done on H.264 error concealment and the implementation of the streaming media system with H.264 support. Here is the major content of the paper:1. Principle of Streaming Media technology. The mechanism of current application transport protocol RTP/RTCP is analyzed, and also the real-time streaming protocol, RTSP. The principle of their interactivity is also investigated. 2. Research on new video coding standard H.264/AVC. We study the error concealment scheme in H.264/AVC and propose a new scheme based on data hiding. The new scheme enhances the network adaptive ability of H.264.3. Implementation of VOD function based on embedded system, and realization of H.264 streaming media system on PC.In conclusion, we developed the streaming media protocol session, realized streaming media client based on embedded system, and built foundation for researching streaming media technology further more. In addition, we studied H.264 error concealment scheme, realized H.264 streaming media system on PC, and accomplished environment for theory research and simulation.
