Embedded Software Testing

Embedded system plays an important role in life of human being, including control system of flight controller, and electronic household appliance such as washing machine. Till now, the portion of software in embedded system is bigger and bigger, and more and more complex. So guarantee reliability of embedded software will face baptism of fire. Most of software testing method can used to embedded testing directly or indirectly, however, owing to the runtime and embedded system characteristic, embedded software testing has to face some special problem.Embedded software is conforming to most characteristics of software as a kind of special software. In order to research embedded software testing, it is necessary to understand software testing. Author of this thesis start from software testing; firstly introduces the basic theory of and method of software testing; then brings in concept of embedded system and analyses the independence of software under embedded system which is the essentials of this thesis. In this thesis, author will focus on embedded software testing, analyses the important and complex point of embedded software testing, look for solution and explore strategies of embedded software testing.Embedded software testing is a new arriving research subject in recent years。In this thesis, on the basis of introducing software testing and theories of embedded software, we will present some actual testing methods for embedded software by take one firewall driver testing as an example.According to above mentioned content, this thesis will be parted into four parts:1. Research Software Test. In this part, we start on analyzing present status of software testing, and make an whole introduction on software testing, includes: software testing concept, some mistake area, the aim and denotation of software testing and software testing categories.2. Introduce Embedded System. It is necessary to understand embedded system which is the developing and testing platform of embedded software. In this part, author presents the history of embedded system, explores the future development of embedded system, explains definition of embedded system and analyses characteristics of embedded system.3. Analysis Embedded Software Testing. This is the most important part of paper。 Firstly, author displays the testing environment of embedded software and analyses the specialties of embed software testing, look for the important point and complex point of embedded software testing, and explore strategies of embedded software testing.4. Introduce Embedded Software Testing In Detail. In this part, author will present some actual testing methods of embedded software testing by take one firewall driver testing as example, which includes function testing, boundary value testing, coverage rate testing, memory checking and so on.
