Flash Memory File Storage Format For Discussion

As the new generation semiconductor memory , flash memory gives excellent performance in many aspects . It's high access speed and great density make it a good candidate as the storage body of computer file system . Flash file storage body will beat hard disk at size, power consumption , bad environment withstanding, etc .But using flash memory as file storage body confronts many special problems because of flash memory's some attributes , especially in writing access . How to develop fit file storage format for flash memory and then develop fit file system for it is an important problem for widening application of flash file storage .In this paper , the author firstly analyze several kinds of file storage format developed for flash memory , which have emerged in market , and then give some algorithms of I/O and recycling for file operating based on one of file storage format - Flash Translation Layer(FTL) , at last , propose and analyze an approach of how to embed FTL to DOS .
