The research area in image fusion has become very hot in recent few years. By means of image fusion, much sources information is utilized in the synthesis and we can obtain image which is better than any source image and better for application."Low-light vision" method and "Thermal Infrared vision" method are two necessary kinds of military observation technology to realize the night vision. They react on different wave bands of target radiation and reflection, so their information outputs have complementarity. By means of image fusion and utilizes the message complementarity, we can spread space and time cover and the space resolving power of the sysem.The research of the paper is based on the image processor in the image fusion system. The processor deals with input datas from two channels, low-light vision channel and thermal infrared vision channel. FPGA is the core of the processor, with DSP cooperating with it. FPGA in the instrument of VHDL language and the chart of principle has the function of synchronizing video datas from two channels , enhancing image, real-time fusion and displaying the results. With the help of DSP, FPGA can also realize the function of detecting the edge well based on Prewitt operator and clearing out the background. After the abecedarian research and testing, good fusion image and clear edge well displays have been got.
