Variable polarization technique in MMW communication and detection systems attracts increasing research. Ortho-mode transducers (OMTs) are key components of dual-polarization communication and detection systems, so it is of great engineering importance in carrying out the study of this field. OMTs manufactured by homogeneous waveguide sections are very popular for their good mechanical intensity, high power capacity and upstanding stability. In this dissertation, the OMTs about above-mentioned will be deep and systematically researched from the following aspects:i) Computing procedure of Finite-Difference Time-Domain Method (FDTD) isbriefly introduced, followed by detailed discussion of different absorbing boundary conditions and excitation sources. FDTD numerical method suitable for waveguide analysis can be obtained.ii) Millimeter-wave OMTs are analyzed by FDTD programs. The simulation results from HFSS are well agreed with those using FDTD numerical method, which can validate the efficiency of the proposed numerical technique, iii) The experimental OMT is manufactured and measured. Testing results reached design target. Those lay a technical foundation on dual polarization communication and exploration systems.iv) General introduction is put forward about two kinds of wideband OMTs with complicated structures and different excitations. Field distribution and characteristic parameters are obtained with HFSS software. The above research is very valuable and helpful to development of wideband OMTs.
