The basic principles of some spatial spectrum estimation algorithm such as MUSIC are described at the beginning of the paper, and their performances are analyzed and compared. MUSIC algorithm based on four order cumulate is adoptted inorder to increase DOA estimation precision, resolution and the ability to restrain noise and to realize the array extension. A kind of modified array extension is introduced so as to eliminate the massive redundant date generated when we estimate the DOA of the uniform linear array using the algorithm.At last, the performances of four order MUSIC algorithm and traditional MUSIC algorithm are compared with each other by computer simulations. The effects of spatial spectrum estimation algorithm under Gaussian noise,different snapshots and channel uncertainty are studied. As a result it is proved that we can realize array extension using MUSIC algorithm based on four order cumulate. Also it has some advantages such as increasing DOA estimation, precision and resolution, and reducing the requirement of SNR in array signal processing.
