Studies done in this paper is about image zooming through interpolation method. A new way based on weighted combination is introduced to build the interpolation surface of an image. Also new techniques are used to handle the edges of objects in the image, so that the edges will be kept clear while zooming in.With the development of information technology, digital images are used in many field of our daily lives. As a basic operation of image processing, image zooming has a wide usage.Interpolation is a general method to zoom an image and there are lots of different ways to make interpolation surface. Such as nearest- neighbor interpolation, bi-linear interpolation, Bezier surface based interpolation and so on.The nearest-neighbor interpolation surface is not a continuous surface, so the zooming in result will have obvious mosaics. The bi-linear interpolation surface is a C° surface, which is continuous inside every pixel region, but not at the edges of each regions. The Bezier surface base interpolation builds a C~1 surface in the whole image area, so the zooming in image has good smoothness, But the edges of objects in the image is blurry too. Therefore edge-based interpolation method is brought out. This method first find edges in the image. For the pixel which is crossed by an edge do different interpolation in the different region split by the edge, to keep the edges clear. But surface built by this method is not C~1 at the pixels border.To solve the problems mentioned above, a new method based on weighted combination is introduce to build interpolation surface. In this method a local interpolation surface is built at each image pixel, and the surface patch on each square surrounded by four adjacent pixels is constructed by the weighted combination of the surface patches at these pixels. The patches on all squares are put together to form the whole image interpolation surface with C~1 continuity. Based on this weighted combination surface, a few techniques are introduced to handle the edges of objects in the image, so that the edges will be kept clear while zooming in.
