Mobile communication is one of the most rapid development fields in the communications, it produces great influence on human life and society development. With the rapid development of Internet and the increasing need of all kinds of wireless services, the wireless communication networks which are characterized by voice service, can not meet the need of most people now. Therefore, the system of the third generation mobile communication (IMT-2000), which is characterized by large capacity, high data rate and multimedia service, will be the cardinal technology of the wireless communication in the future. Code Division Multiple Access(CDMA) is one of the cardinal multiple access technologies due to its good antinoise performance, security and low power in the system of the third generation mobile communication. The IS-95 standard is presented as a spread-spectrum digital cellular system based on CDMA by Qualcomm company. It is the first system which introduces the CDMA technology in digital cellular mobile communications as a standard. As a system of the third generation mobile communication, CDMA2000 is a backup system of IS-95 CDMA. It adopts primary and basic technologies of IS-95. In the field of electronic design, FPGA as a new Programmable Logic Device has gradually becomed a preferred method for digital hardware circuit design, which provides a brand-new method for CDMA mobile communication system.According to the configuration and characteristic of forward traffic channels, a general design project of baseband module is presented in this thesis. In this design, VHDL as a Hardware Description Language is used to implement each primary module of baseband sender and partial modules of baseband receiver on a piece of FPGA. Relevant timing simulation waveform pictures are given using the software of Quartus II 5.0. The results of timing simulation prove this design to be feasible. All the modules are of concise codes, clear comments. They can be replanted in similar system easily. As a result, the achievements of the design which lay a solid basis of the work in the future are of practical values.
