This dissertation, connected with NNSFC project,"Compact reconfigurable planar antennas in mobile terminals", is focused on the research of pattern-reconfigurable planar fractal antennas.First of all, the dissertation presents some basic knowledge about the reconfigurable antennas, including the background, advantages, applications, the development sketch of this project in the worldwide and the main work of this dissertation. In the second part, some concepts and theoretics that are related to the antennas in the dissertation are introduced, as well as some review about the research background of reconfigurable fractal antennas.In the third part, the applications of the second and third order Hilbert curve in the design of pattern-reconfigurable antennas are presented. Two kinds of reconfigurable planar fractal antennas that could steer in the E plane are designed. Some experiments have been finished, and the results accorded with the simulation results well.In addition, based on the second order Hilbert curve, some modifications have been done. With different kinds of substrates, the pattern-reconfigurable antennas and the broadband directional antennas are designed. Some experiments also have been done.Finally, the summary about the research of the project and the expectation about the future work are presented.
