This dissertation focuses on the design and realization of the GPIB (General Purpose Interface Bus) controller based on WLAN (Wireless LAN). The controller makes it easier to construct wireless automatic test system, by which engineers can share the resource of instruments and remote control the instruments, especially in some environment other GPIB controller couldn't use.We used mature 802.11b CF card on wireless communication. WLAN movable customers can gain similar throughput rate and availability with Ethernet. So taking advantage of 802.1 lb on design GPIB controller will expand the application of ATS.With the emphasis of discussing the design of the hardware, firmware and dynamic link library of the controller, the dissertation introduces the 802.11b protocol, TCP/IP protocol and the GPIB protocol briefly. In chapter one, it introduces the background and significance about designing the GPIB controller based on WLAN. In chapter two, it introduces central idea of the controller and some protocols. In chapter three it discusses the hardware design of WLAN-GPIB controller and chapter four it discusses the software design. In chapter five it introduces how to test the WLAN-GPIB controller. At last, in chapter six it summaries the whole design and propose the modification.
