As the world relies on computer network to do increasingly important and complicated tasks, the field of network management becomes ever more important. Whether ensuring that the e-commerce servers are constantly and accessible or simply making sure that company executives can send and receive e-mail, the network engineers are heavily relied upon to ensure consistency. Whether there is problem, the network engineers need to be able to quickly pinpoint the source of the problem, whether it is as simple as a stopped mail daemon or as complicated as a fiber cut between satellite offices. To finish these tasks perfectly, network engineers need the help of network management software, especially the help of network event management software. Network event management is a key functionality of a network management system that is used to determine the root cause of faults in a network, and to filter our redundant and spurious events. The kernel technology of network event management is network event correlation arithmetic. The two most important aspects of network event correlation arithmetic are the accuracy of the data returned by a correlation, and the speed with which correlation occurs. In general, the network event correlation arithmetic combines causal and temporal correlation models, both correlation models will introduce in this paper, and the comparison between both correlation models will also introduce. Base on the introduction of two correlation models, this paper will show the new network event correlation arithmetic which based on the "Event Managing Policy". And at last, this paper will show the network event management system based on such event correlation arithmetic.
