With the development of IP telecommunication technologies, Multimedia communication process takes a rapid progress. The common technologies of flourishing industries especially IPTV focus on audio/video centered multimedia process system. The video coding standard - H.264, which achieved its final draft in 2003, will foster the development of these industries and embody its superiority in these industries, for the superiority such as higher compression efficiency network friendly design H.264 have.First of all, this thesis discusses the theory of video compression and the process of video compression. After this, it takes serverial pages to introduce the video coding standard MPEG-x and H.26x serial standards. Around error concealment the heart of this thesis, this thesis analyses the thinking behind the design of H.264 and the coding process, while this paper discuss the key algorithms in H.264 coding standard.Secondly, this thesis looks back for the history of the development of error concealment technology, introduces the classic algorithms about error concealment, and discusses the characteristic of each algorithm. After this, this thesis shows the error concealment technologies H.264 used. The purpose of all the error concealment technologies, including temporal error concealment and spatial error concealment, is to let the concealment block join the surrounding correctly received blocks naturally at the least cost. This thesis takes a new algorithm– sptial_temporal_unequal error concealment, which takes the properties of video data into consideration. The new algorithm improves the effect of error concealment at a very little cost.Thirdly, this thesis discusses the model of IPTV and put the new algorithm to use, While this thesis improves the new algorithm in some extreme case for other purpose.At last, a brief introduction of all the research works in this thesis is made. And based on the works, this thesis makes an expectation for the future work.
