E-mail System And Its Multimedia Remote Ua Design And Realization

X.400 (88) series of recommendations specified by CCITT defines the Message Handling System (MHS) , which support one of the most important applications of computer networks .electronic mail. MHS enables users to exchange messages on a store- and- forward basis . In the beginning of this paper , the evolution of MHS , the architecture of MHS and the objects of MHS such as UA , MTA , MS are introduced . Then the management domains,naming and addressing methods, MHS services and the protocols associated with MHS are discussed. Subsequently, this paper gives a comparsion of some typical structure of MHS and discussed the Remote User Agent (RUA) based on Client/Server architecture in detail. After that , a designe and realization plan of Remote Multimedia User Agent (RMUA) is discussed in detail. Then the implementation of RUA/MTA, RUA/MS access interfaces and a multimedia mail editor which includes sound, scaned bitmap and text under Micorsoft Windows are described. And some advice on use of RMUA in network application design and a typical use of RMUA in GuangDong province are given. Later in this paper, the theory of queue is introduced to analyse the performance of RMUA. Finally , some aspects which should be improved in the future are pointed out.
