Variable-frequency power source has the capacity to simulate the voltage and frequency on the worldwide electric network. It mainly functions as manufacture , detection, debugging in both industrial areas and trade affairs and its application covers the range of household appliances manufacturing, electric engine manufacturing, IT industry, computer facility, and laboratory facility.In the late nineties of the twentieth century, the first variable-frequency power source factory was established in China. After years of development, there are more than 20 factories up till now. The gross value of output of these factories ranges from 100,000RMB to 600.000RMB per year. So far, the technology of medium-size and small-size power sources (below 60KVA) is developed. In the contrast, the technology of large-size power sources (above 60KVA) is developing as the low need of market and the hardship of technique. Because China has access to WTO, factories require more and more high-power electrical facilities and electric sources to drive production lines. In this condition, there are more demand for using variable-frequency power source so that it has a prospective market.In this dissertation, I am going to give a general and systematic introduction about the development of high-power variable-frequency power sources and its technology as regard. Firstly, I will give an outline of PWM technology and IGBT device. Then I will introduce the principle of medium-sized and small-size variable-frequency power sources. Finally, I will raise my feasible solution to improve the high-power variable-frequency power sources according to some practical problemsAs to the hardware design of high-power variable-frequency power sources, I use the laminated busbar, which decrease the overvoltage stress to the lowest point so as to ensure the equipment working best. I also use the voltage enablement and anti-bias circuits to improve the capacity of drive and absorption circuit. After that I improve current feedback circuit and measuring circuit in order to measure capacity factor.
