OFDM is an efficient method resisting frequency selectivity interfere and becoming the hot research point of wideband wireless access. However, OFDM has disadvantages of sensitivity to timing error and frequency synchronization error. The large PAPR Problem also afects its application to larger scope. SC-FDE mode proposed in 802.16a is a transmission mode, which transmits modulated high rate single carrier signal on the Tx end and carries out FFT and IFFT transmission on the receiving end. SC Scheme can overcome disadvantages of OFDM and attain approximate performance of OFDM.One of well-known problems in SC-FDE system is its sensitivity to timing synchronization errors. Because the timing synchronization errors influence SC-FDE system's performance much, it is necessary to estimate and compensate them at receiving points. The main contents of this thesis is the timing synchronization of SC-FDE systems. In the chapter 1, we introduce the development of OFDM and SC-FDE systems briefly at first. Then summarize the existing synchronization schemes for SC-FDE systems. In the chapter 2, we introduce the basic structure of OFDM and SC-FDE. The advantages and disadvantage of the two systems are presented. Furthermore, we introduce the relationship of the two systems. In the chapter 3, the effect of timing synchronization error to SC-FDE system is discussed in detail. We analyze the influence of timing deviation to SC-FDE system such its constellation diagram and bit error rate.In the chapter 4, we investigate some familiar timing synchronization schemes of multi-carrier systems and schemes of SC-FDE. Timing synchronization of SC-FDE system is divided into time acquisition and time...
