In the fields such as computer-aided design,scientific calculation visualization and virtual reality and so on,things are always related to the interactive display of complicated geometrical model.The complexity goes beyond the real-time rendering capability of current high-powered computer graphic systems.how to improve the rendering velocity of large-scale complex scene in order to implement the real-time interactive display of complex data has become a challenging problem of computer graphics.This paper discussed some key technology of mesh model simplification. Firstly,i summarize the related technology of this paper,and then,generalize model simplification and LOD (level of detail) technology. In the third chapter,i analyze several kinds of related model simplification arithmetic from home and broad. i introduced the mesh simplification arithmetics based on vertex deletion,on vertex clustering,on optimization technology,on progressive mesh and multi-resolution technology.i also introduced the close-plane combination arithmetic,the arithmetic based on edge collapse and quadric error metrics,the arithemtic based on wavelets analysis ,and so on. At last,I combine the half-collapse method with the close-plane combination idea and store the multi-resolution model produced by half edge collapse into a tight model denotation way,and achieve a high-efficient construction method of LOD model. The method is based on half edge collapse operation, and the result is stored into a kind of multi-resolution denotation method from which any precision model can be picked up. The method take not only the collapse edge length into account, but also the other geometry character such as "curvature condition".in order to computer the collapse cost of edge. This arithmetic adopt a tight denotation method to store mesh information, it can make consecutive LOD models and support multi-resolution denotation and pick-up. In the end,i present the applied example and data.In the 4th chapter, i go deep in the research of hiberarchy-based clustering methods which is applied to mesh simplification.
