With the development of electronic computer and information technology and the advent of Information society, the demand on the security of Information is increasing in the civilian fields such as finance safeguard, data encryption and electronic business. In the modern age, all kinds of problems of information security appear.Those methods which are used to identify someone's status according to his marker have been limited.Thereby, some new techniques based on biological characteristics, especially the fingerprint identification, have been developed quickly.The fingerprint has the characteristics of conveniency,availability, safety and reliability besides the Biometrics uniqueness and the permanence , therefore it is used as the main basis to identify individual identity in some fields. Now most of the automatic fingerprint identification systems are the PC-based platform. But the currently developed market for civil application has demand more for system's portability and convenience. Under the background, In this thises,we discuss and summarize elements and the key of technology in fingerprint identification。we introduce main arithmetics of fingerprint identification at the present time and made those arithmetics optimized and predigested in order to make them more suitable for the operation of the embedded fingerprint identification system based on ARM.In this paper, we presented the improvements and the creatives of the modules in fingerprint identification system, including character pick-up, eliminating, local feature vectors establishing ,fingerprint matching, and so on. Moreover, I realized the software using TURBO C in PC, and debugged and tested it successfully. Experimental result shows that our arithmetics almost meet the requirement of identifying fingerprints. .
