With the development of network and the coming of the post-PC era, the embedded system is becoming the center of interest in IT and bringing along large market.Embeded system also to occupy a rapid development and the steep competition time, the Linux operating system took one kind of formidable open operating system, more comes the widespread application in the post-PC system. ARM is the leading provider of 32-bit embedded RISC microprocessors. ARM offers a wide range of processor cores and delivering high performance together with low power consumption and system cost, high performance and specific thumb instrument set. ARM7TDMI, one processor core of ARM, is very suitable to be applied in control field where requires low power consumption and network support, although the programming should be taken care because of the special property of not having a MMU in it.μClinux is distinct from its birth. It is derived of Linux and inherits lots of virtues of linux such as open source, supporting wide range processors, many drivers, and so on. Above all, it has special implements in the case of not having MMU.μClinux also has full implementations of TCP/IP and some essential tools. Based on the outstanding advantages of the introduced operate system and hardware platform above, it is certain that the embedded system is realized by ARM-μCLinux.This thesis mainly discusses how to port Linux to arm platform according to different applications. At first, a summarization about embedded operating system is given and the thesis thoroughly analyzes the characteristic of the embedded Linux. Then the S3C44B0 platform is introduced. After that, the process of porting Linux to the S3C44B0 is discussed, including building the cross complier, writing the starting code, modifying and configuring of the kernel and realizing the root system. Then the problem that I met in the porting is given.
