AGV is abbreviation of Automated Guided Vehicle. It is a vehicle that equipped electromagnetic or optical devices, and can move on the prescriptive routes automatically, and also has safety protection system and loading/unloading system. It is one of the most important equipment in some Logistic or Material Flow system.High technology, high difficulty and wide professional fields are the features of the AGV system. The good knowledge and capability of mathematics, electronics, mechanism, computer, radio communication, control system management, information technology and simulation technology is highly needed. In the vehicle control system, the key technologies are navigation, guidance and positioning.The contents of this thesis were opened by a practical project of Qujing Cigarette factory. Firstly, it informed the whole AGV system totally, including stationary control system and vehicle control system. Systematically, explained the principle of AGV system and the structures of software and hardware. Classified AGV professionally. Secondly, discussed the 2 most important questions of the vehicle control system in detail, those were, "Where am I? (Navigation / Positioning)" , and, "How can I get there? (Guidance)" , made the motional mode of Steer Driving vehicle, and made out the related formulas. According to the practical application of AGV system, gave out a design method of AGV control system in total, and drove the reality of AGV engineering more possible. Finally, summarized the computer vision and geographical information system will be the further way of AGV development.
