Experiments are very important for many subjects, especially for science and technology teaching. Experiments are more direct, practical and innovative compared to pure theory teaching method. The emerging of virtual laboratory solves the problems of time, location and apparatus limits, and it provides a self experiment platform for users.Simulation algorithms and experimental rules are critical problems in building a virtual teaching experimental environment. Normal operations of experiments are based on precise simulation and correct rule decision. Also, the expandability of algorithms and rules ensures the self innovative experiments of the users. In this paper, combined with computer component experiments, simulation algorithms and experimental rules are mainly studied. Object-oriented simulation method, multi-threads parallel simulation mechanism, knowledge representation and reasoning technology are applied to the design of algorithms and rules, and this provides a theory base for implementation of the intelligent virtual teaching laboratory.First, characters of virtual laboratory, its functionalities and key techniques are analyzed. Then, system simulation, object-oriented technology, modular design and reusable design are described. Next, computer component experiments as an example are taken, from a global view;the virtual laboratory system is analyzed. Techniques applied for virtual laboratory and a feasible design are given. This design uses object-oriented simulation method to model the system, and three-tier Client/Server mode as network architecture. After that, for distributed environment, multi-threads parallel simulation mechanism is proposed. Based on the analysis of the experiment process, and combined with event scheduling, this mechanism is used to simulate the system. To implement the check-up of the operations, production system is used to define the experimental rules, and forward reasoning strategy is used for rule match. Finally, an initial prototype is given by 8255 input/output experiment. The prototyping system developed with the modeling method and design that this paper proposed can meet the basic requirements of virtual teaching experiments. The experiments indicate the techniques this paper studied are feasible, and have a practical value and application prospect. At the same time, a useful attempt is made toapply the object-oriented simulation and artificial intelligent technologies to the virtual laboratory.
