The Job Management System (JMS) is such kind of middle software that founds upon the operating system, and manages the workstations or PCs in a cluster. The system tries to accomplish the goal to build an efficient resource management model on distributed, isomorphic and self-governed computers and special devices connected via the network, and to form a distributed computing environment of large throughputs and high performance. The author has joined in the Software Engineering Center of NPU from Aug, 2004, participating in an international cooperating project that is the design and development of the server end of the Job Management System. For the practice of more than one year, the author has gone deep into the architecture and realization methods of JMS.The research accomplishments mainly include:(1) Summarize the history and the applications of the Job Management System;fully analyze the architecture of Job Management System, and portions in frame structure are described in detail;refine the three-layer hierarchy model of the server end of JMS.(2) Institute the methods of graphic description of all kinds of jobs and introduce a new job type Sap BW job.(3) Study and analyze the two-layer scheduling process and strategies of the job networks and requests in JMS;work out a new scheduling algorithm based on weighted round robin for multi-machine scheduling that could balance the load of the network and enhance the efficiency of the system.(4) Develop and deploy 64-bit Job Management System that can be run on IPF platform. IPF is new IA-64 architecture process chip that developed by Intel and HP.
