In response to higher data rates and a larger number of channels on optical communications networks, wave-length-division multiplexing or WDM—the mainstream system is in overwhelming use. Tunable optical filter is an indispensable component of WDM system, which acts as the vital part of modulators and De-modulators. Tunable optical filter is extensively used in optical sensing system as a wavelength selecting component. It is also used as reflector in semiconductor laser and fiber laser, noise suppression in erbium-doped amplifier (EDFA), dispersion compensator, wavelength selector and wavelength switch.Some tunable filters are introduced recently. They are Mach-Zehnder filter, fiber grating, Acousto-optic tunable filters (AOTF ), and tunable fiber Fabry-Perot filter etc. But it's really hard to achieve rapid tuning, wide free spectrum range (FSR) and low insert loss simultaneously. Micron Optics Inc released tunable fiber Fabry-Perot filter recently, which has extremely wide FSR, low insert loss, rapid tuning and narrow 3dB bandwidth. It can be applied in optical communication, fiber sensing, microwave photonics etc. The filter's controller is strictly required in order to achieve high precision. This paper adopts auto gain control (AGC) technology etc to fabricate the filter's controller. In the end we use tunable fiber Fabry-Perot filter do realize SSB and carrier suppression in optical communication system in order to illustrate the performance of the filter.
