Along with the projection technology development, the establishment of high-resolution, large-screen tiled display system (also called tiled display wall) becomes the urgent demand of virtual reality and visualization technology. In order to provide a better display platform for our research of scientific visualization, we develop our own stereo tiled display system based on our Dawning PC cluster. This thesis revolves around our research during building the tiled display system, in detail introduced a series of problems met on the hardware and the software in practice. We present our solutions after thorough analysis.By using the Chromium system can only realize the distributed parallel rendering of OpenGL procedures. So, we apply correcting efforts to an existing Distributed Multihead X Project, and achieve the purpose of general procedures running on the tiled display system. There are two primary challenges faced while building a seamless multi projector display. These are geometric misalignment and color variation. After elaborating on distributed parallel rendering technology, this thesis carries on the thorough analysis and the discussion to the geometry adjustment and the color adjustment issues. In previous geometry registration algorithms, people have to take separate photographs for each projector. It is quite tedious when the projection wall scale increases. With our algorithm, we only need take one photograph to register for all projectors (two photographs for 3D rendering). To achieve photometric seamlessness, we simplify Majumder's method, and combine it with edge blending to smooth the overlapping regions.Stereo rendering is also discussed in this thesis. We introduce the principle of stereo display, and make comparison among several kinds of typical stereo projecting display system, then give our resolution according to our hardware conditions. After giving an introduction on how to implement stereo rendering using OpenGL, we also present the algorithm to calculate proper stereo pairs. In addition, we discuss on the topic of hardware options, some experiences are gained during the tiled display wall constructing progress.
