Optical fiber grating has made remarkable progress in recent years. Long period fiber grating (LPG), one kind of fiber grating, is being paid more and more attention to because of its high sensitivity. On the other hand, polymer optical fiber has advantages because of its softness. Polymeric long period fiber grating (PLPG) combines the features of LPG and polymer optical fiber together, and thus might have a promising future in the field of sensing technology.This paper is mainly about the sensing experiment research on the PLPG.It is introduced in the former part of this paper the application of fiber grating, its manufacturing method, the sensing theory and the mode coupling theory which is widely used in analyzing the fiber grating.In the latter part of this paper, the discussion is mainly focused on the experiment research of the PLPG Firstly, it is given in detail the experiment system of the pressure sensing in axe direction, which is based on the cantilever beamer. Then the measuring method and the problem-shooting way are fully discussed. Based on this, we organize the experiment using PLPG We get its pressure strain sensitivity of 1.459 pm/με with a strain to 0.63%.The performance is far better than that of FPG Secondly, we introduce the experiment research on the PLPG temperature and strain sensing, including the measuring system and the analysis of the result.Finally, a summary of the paper is given as well as the prospective of the research.
