In the forming process of railway transportation product, shunting operation is an important step. But inertia accidents often happen, and present monitoring system cannot reliably prevent these accidents. The basic method of resolving the problem is that shunting locomotive must have the capacity of distance and velocity monitoring. For DGPS has the character of global coverage, high precision, 3-D location, etc, DGPS Based Shunting Monitoring System is developed. That is to say, ITS is applied in shunting operation monitoring.The system of DGPS Based Shunting Monitoring System is big one, and some kinds of advanced technique, including DGPS, wireless communication and computer technology, are adopted in this project. Its aim is to solve the present problem of shunting, and to effectively schedule and manage shunting process.In this paper, in-depth research has been done in the software development of this system. For technologies of many fields are involved in its software, only some important technologies can be introduced. This paper mainly solves some problems as follows:1. On the DOS platform, creating electronic map of vehicleElectronic map of vehicle is the base of system monitoring, so its creating is the key of this system.2. With electronic map, DGPS data, etc, to locate shunting locomotiveOne function of electronic map system is to determine the location of vehicle. In this paper, I use the technology of map matching and relative data to get the beginning location and other location of shunting locomotive, and to perform distance monitoring.3. Switching monitoring mode for the priority of monitoring and the failure of DGPS monitoringAccording to system design, Flat Shunting Monitoring System continues to be employed; so monitoring mode need be switched between DGPS Based ShuntingMonitoring System and Flat Shunting Monitoring System.4. Designing the protocol for wireless communication and application layer communicationRedundant bytes and so on are added to obtain communication reliability, and this benefits system stability, etc.5. Implementing GUI (graphical user interfaces)Friendly user interface is an important factor of successful system.Successful development of this system not only settles the problem of distance computing and velocity monitoring for shunting operation and so on, but also avoids accident occurrence in an emergence. At the same time, this system not only can display Real-time visual locomotive's position and signal machine's state, but also benefits scheduling and management.
