Consume electronics is one of the important applications of the Embedded System. In traditional opinions, the platforms of the advance consume electronics are always based on Wince, Linux, Palm and Symbian. These general operating systems must consider the platform's independence to reduce the porting difficulties. They can reduce the developing difficulty and shorten the developing period. However, the cost is the key issue in consume electronics domain. These systems will increase the cost of hardware and can't make the max use of the hardware. The thesis describes the important components of the embedded system for multimedia player from many viewpoints, reducing the cost of hardware by special designed platform, improving the efficiency of the applications. The primary contributions of the thesis are: design and implement a special file system for multimedia in order to reduce the consumption of the memory and the requirement of the hardware, consequently reduce the cost of the system and the complexity of the system design, and ensure the software real-time system. The author focus on the key applications, such as emulator, image viewer, elaborates the optimization base on practical experience, presents the practical and useful method and theory. The thesis also describes the other components, offers new ideas and suggestions about boot loader and general optimization focus on the special embedded CPU. The thesis is organized as follow: chapter 1 gives a brief introduction of embedded multimedia system. Chapter 2 describes the architecture design from both hardware and software perspective. Chapter 3 and chapter 4 elaborate the design, implement of the special file system for multimedia. Chapter 5 presents a flexible boot loader, which supports multi-boot applications. Chapter 6 lists the work about the application porting and optimization.At last, draws the conclusion and makes prospect. This system is implemented and already in production, which proves the practical value of the theory and technical methods.
