Radiotherapy is one of the most important method of malignancy treatment. Radiotherapy planning system (RTPS), which is based on computer technology, is the fundamental access to precise radiotherapy. In the early years, RTPS was only used to design targets and calculate dosage. And at that time the radiotherapy is hemi-experience. Now days, with the development of computer, radiotherapy physics, processing of medical image, biomedical engineering and imaging equipment, the characteristics of RTPS have improved rapidly.The principle and the key technologies of RTPS are studied on in this paper, especially highlighted on the image processing technologies and the application of them. Under the cooperation with radiotherapy center, the first affilitate hospital of ZZU from April 2004, the traditional radiotherapy process of the center was studied on, part of the function was developed, and part of the technique was improved. The main work and innovation as follows:1. A image acquire workstation is designed and builded for the non-standard equipment, Images acquire and communication by network are fulfilled, which has great realistic.2. The medical image processing technologies are studied on such as enhancement, emendation, matching and fusion. And applied such technologies into RTPS. The fusion of CT and MRI has great realistic and clinical values in RTPS.3. Compare the segmentation arithmetic which were in common use, the segmentation result is evaluated by clinical effect. This changed the conditionthat segmentation manually in this center.4. 3D construction and visualization technologies are studied on. The display of tumor and dosage field in the same coordinate are realized.The results of the research have applied in the clinic more than 10 cases. The system performed well and the curative effect is satisfying. The experts of the center highly praised the system. They acclaimed that the RTPS system is useful, efficiency and can bring great benefits to them.
