With the arrival of the information society,IP traffic has been developed explosively, user's requisition for data has been increasing day and day .In 2002, data traffic has already exceeded the traditional telephone traffic. The access network relying on paired line and coaxial cable can't adapt to the development of the network at present, there is a need for new access network technology to satisfy the user's demands for bandwidth urgently. PON has a lot of virtues,such as no active node , cost shares,transparent transmission,apt to upgrade and operation,low expense of maintenance,so PON is the favorite of the telecommunication department,which will be the best scheme to solve the problem of last kilometer. MAC protocol is one of key technologies,which has been concerned on by the researchers for a long time. How to design the MAC protocol with fairness , high-efficience, supporting QoS is the key to realize complete synthetical access of PON. Based on studying APON,we have studyed EPON MAC protocol and put forward new upstream access algorithm.The performances of the proposed MAC protocol are simulated,The simulation's results show that the protocol has good access performances. Firstly, current situation of the access network,the technical type of PON and the prospect of access network are introduced briefly. In chapter 2, we provide the EPON system structure,protocol model,the principle and key technology. In chapter 3, we put forward MPCP of EPON and the bandwidth allocation algorithm which has been existed.Static bandwidth allocation algorithm and dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm are discussed in detail. In chapter 4,we study the EPON MAC protocol. traditional upstream access algorithm is based on OLT,we propose upstream access algorithm which is based on both OLT and ONU, ONU is participated in upstream access calculation,and we conbine all grant information in a grant frame,which can have good performance .On the basis of that,we...
