Wireless Ad Hoc network does not depend on any fixed support infrastructure and has the advantages of deployability, flexibility, robustness, etc. The requirements on information share and data exchange among wireless smart devices and consumer electronics promote greatly the research on wireless Ad Hoc networks. This thesis focuses on the wireless medium access control (MAC) and the routing schemes in the UWB-based Ad Hoc networks. In Chapter II, we presented the basic concept of medium access control firstly. Then we introduced some kind of normal MAC protocols. Especially, for the heterogeneous network in which mobile terminals have different power so that they have different transmission radius, we analyzed two kinds of advanced MAC protocols, analyzed their problems when they were applied in Ad hoc networks based-on UWB technology, moreover, their ability to solve hidden terminals and exposed terminals. In Chapter III, we studied the performance of two standard MAC protocols-CSMA/CA protocols in IEEE 802.15.3 and S-ALOHA protocols in U.C.A.N. project-in the context of UWB wireless networks. Firstly, we introduced their principles in detail, respectively. Then we observed the change of average throughput and access delay with the change of packet size and packet generation rate. Finally we modeled and analyzed the CSMA/CA protocol in UWB network and narrow band network. In Chapter IV, we firstly introduced the IEEE 802.15.3 protocol and studied its association procedure. We found the standard association procedure has some limitation. Utilizing precise position location of UWB technology, we extended the application scopes of IEEE 802.15.3 protocol and proposed an Advanced Association Procedure (AAP), which improved on the association of IEEE 802.15.3 MAC. The AAP has three outstanding characters. It utilizes precise position location character of UWB technology and introduces semi-backoff algorithm and forward algorithm into MAC layer. So it can provide QoS requests and guarantees that new-come devices can communicate with every device in the existing piconet. By virtue of UWB's precise position location, forward algorithm, and semi-backoff algorithm, the proposed AAP can accommodate more situations than standard association procedure. Simulation results show that the proposed AAP has a very low packet loss rate and the average transmission time is still very short.Chapter V mainly discussed the route issue about UWB ad hoc network. Firstly we analyzed the problems of DSR, SMA and AMR protocols. Then we proposed a new routing protocol for UWB Ad hoc network. New routing protocol tries to get sufficient route information, at the same time, decrease the network load caused by route discovery. The simulation results show that the routing load of new protocol is lower than that of DSR. The throughput of new routing protocol is higher than that of DSR. When the mobility increases, these advantages are more obvious.
