Recently, rapid growth of digital technique, DPA for terminal products and portable electronic products demand more efficient, less area, more reliable and less cost power products. Hence, the Power Management ICs (PM IC) become more important, which have huge market today and in future. However, almost the whole domestic market of the PM IC is held by foreign IC companies. So it is urgent and significant to develop PM IC having our own Intellectual Property.Power devices are used more and more widely as the technique of power electronics develops. Traditional power devices produce a great deal of current harmonic waves and quadergy, which will pollute the electric network. Current harmonic waves will deteriorate the working environment of electrical equipments, and will affect the communication system and other systems beyond the electric network. Quadergy will waste power energy. So the researching of PFC technique is urgent, and it has become one of the ten focuses in the power electronics field. In this thesis, firstly, the relevant techniques for power management ICs were introduced. And then the design of a typical PM IC product, APFC preregulator, was described. Its operation principles and control method were analyzed in detail. Based on analysis, the main modules were extracted according to their functions, and the design of the modules was completed. It is worthy to point out that almost all of the modules are reusable in power management IC design. Then the origin of distortion in input current waveform was analyzed, from which the method of reducing the distortion was derived. Based on the analysis, the APFC system was designed and simulated. By modeling the outer circuit modules, the runtime of simulation was greatly reduced and the design period was shortened significantly. The method can be applied to the system simulation of other switching power supplies with high frequency. It is a highlight in the thesis. At last, the conclusion and prospects are given. This circuit was designed in 1.5um BCD technology, and simulated with SpectreS. Simulation results show that its specifications meet the designed SPEC well. Thedesign has been finished taped out already.
