Recently, the hot-swap technique has got more and more applications in many industries and its market develops very fast, which produces large demands of Hot-swap Controller ICs. However, almost all of the products in the domestic market are held by foreign IC companies. It is of importance for us to develop Hot-swap Controller ICs with our own Intellectual Property. In the thesis, a Hot-swap Controller IC was suggested based on analysis of the development of the hot-swap technique. And its circuit and layout design was completed. As it is a typical analog and mixed signal power IC, the special process, ABCD150, was introduced that was especially suitable for of the chips working under high voltage and large current conditions. The IC was accomplished based on this process and many influences were considered in the floorplan and layout design. The simulation results showed that the performance of the circuit met the specifications successfully. It has high stability, reliability and feasibility and can work properly and efficiently in a wide range of ambient temperature and supply voltage variation. Much attention was paid on floorplan and layout including influence from heat, large current, digital noise and high frequency noise. To improve matching of devices and reliability of the system, some special consideration was employed such as identify copy, cross-coupling, adding guard ring, etc. Its layout is signed off to the foundry to be taped-out and tested. The design is recognized by foreign partners for settling some technical problems in power IC such as compatibility between digital and analog modules, voltage resistance. And experience in circuit design and layout can be referenced in other power management ICs.
