Microstrip antennas are structured by patches printed on substrate which is added with ground plane. Microstrip and coaxial-cable are used to feed to the antennas. Electromagnetic field can radiate to space through the patches and the aperture which connect to the ground plane. Then microstrip antennas can be regarded as aperture antennas. The height of substrate usually is much less than that of wavelength. Microstrip antennas are usually applied to the wireless equipment which are working at the wideband of 100MHz to 100GHz, especially the aerocraft and the portable communicating tools on ground. Although microstrip antennas have many advantages such as low profile, small weight, easily conformed to equipment, low cost, etc, their applications are limited for the reason of the low bandwidth. In order to enhance the performance of communication facilities, small antennas for wideband and multi-bands applications have became an aspect of important in the field of antennas. In this paper, many new techniques for wideband and multi-band microwave antenna are presented after some basic theoretic of microstrip antennas are reviewed. Among these new technologies, some novel designs are very noticeable in recent years. Finally several compact microstrip antennas are designed and simulated with good performance and novel configuration .
