Research of computing engineering quantity automatically based on architectural drawings has been over twenty years, and some measures have been found, such as graphics inputting method, using files based on data exchange etc. Some measures are being used practically, but all these measures have not resolved radically the acquirement automatically of engineering quantity, because they have been separated from architectural design with computer assistance. Firstly this paper analyzed the existing systems. Then a method of acquiring automatically the information of engineering quantity, which is common and based on vector shop drawing and label, is brought forward.Methods of acquiring automatically the information of engineering quantity in this paper are actually a measurement of information acquirement based on vector engineering drawings. Engineering drawings are recognized and classified without thinking of their eddy, displacement and scale. Then the whole information of ichnography and cutaway is acquired according to labels. So triple dimensional information of architectural drawings and information of steel could be acquired.The second chapter brings forward a kind of method based on graphics clue, it makes use of coordinate index and measure of search little by little displacement and can successfully recognize regular graph. The third chapter picks up features of contour line by fouries transfaction, elements of engineering drawings are categorized for the first time, then categorized by principle of maximal subjection value for the second time, the classified algorithm is analyzed by example. The fourth chapter brings forward a series of principles by the feature of engineering drawings, the comprehension of labels by these principles make ichnography associate with cutaway view, then three-dimensional attributes of engineering drawings and information of reinforcing steel bar can be acquired.After these algorithms are applied to computation of engineering quantity, we find it can deal with regular architectural drawings, but some man-made factors impact on the result, so resolving these problems will be the emphases of research for the future.
