Along with the popularization of computer, CAD software is widely used in many industries, especially in the architectural and mechanical industries. To these industries, existing CAD documents are not only the basis for design responsibility ascertaining, but also the accumulation of knowledgebase and technology. Concerning intellectual property, they are worthy of reusing,. Therefore, CAD documents should be well archived, fully managed and carefully protected.To meet this need, some Electronic Documents Management System(EDMS) have been implemented. These EDMS realized static management for CAD documents as archive management, but lack of efficient protection.With the development of Network, it is possible for sharing and cooperating of CAD documents online. Dynamic EDMS is desired to resolve these problems: design/approval-oriented documents' share and management; the security while sharing and managing documents online; the responsibility ascertain of design and approval.The whole purpose of this project is to develop an EDMS based on network database and biometrics technology. This EDMS is design/approval-oriented. To solve the security problem while documents being designed and approved, two biometrics authentication technologies, the handwritten signature verification technology and the fingerprint identification technology, are applied to this EDMS. To improve the security of CAD documents, an online edit-save function is also applied to this system.
