Comparing with common control systems, networked control systems (NCSs) require less wire and maintenance, and they are applied in modern industry more and more widely. Introduction of network in NCSs makes random delays in the network. In order to solve the problem, we analyze the characteristics of traffic in networks, and then we draw a conclusion that traffic in network have the same essential property-self-similarity. Based on it and the characteristics of control networks, we emphatically describe the time-delay characteristics of traffic in Ethernet and also simulate the time-delay characteristics of a simple NCSs recurring to the General Purpose Simulation System (GPSS) simulation language. Besides, the paper studies linear approximation algorithm to produce self-similar traffic and analyses its queueing performance.
