With the rapid development of computer network technique, web is becoming fashionable all over the world because of its universality, interaction, speediness and convenient, and have infiltered in various application area. Promoted by marketing requirement, the scale of web application keeps on extending, and its complexity increasing. How to ensure the correctness and reliability of web application becomes more and more an attentive problem. As an important means of assuring the quality and reliability of software, web testing becomes an importance chain of software development process.generally speaking, web testing mainly involves testing functionality of system, presentation layer and performance. Of which, the performance testing is most important, because performance reflect the qulity level of service provided by web. Due to its dynamic features, the user number and data transmission rate of web application is unremitting changing, therefore, performance becomes the biggest problem of web.at present, people have taken out many achievement in web performance testing area overseas, providing some testing models and approachs, developing some load testing tools. But research and development of web performance testing is inchoate interiorly, there is no ideal model and tool for testing. There are a lot of things to do for web performance testing in our country.In this paper, we make a study of web performance testing, summarizing the content of performance testing in term of three parts: application-end, server-end and middle network, bringing forward a three-layer testing model, giving some test strategies and methods, in addition, we introduce the general functionality and structure of LoadSuit-a performance testing tool that we developed, and present its design & implement, this paper contributes both to the fundamental academic research of web performance testing theoretically, and to the specific practibility.
