We know, the level measurement accuracy of the FMCW radar is determined by the bandwidth of the transmitted signal, and when estimating frequency with the FFT, theresolution and accuracy are limited by the observation time of the signal, i.e., the case of high resolution and accuracy, such as the level measurement system, the Ground Penetrating Radar(GPR),etc. It's apparently difficult to meet the requirement of accuracy by using of FFT directly. The thesis plans improving frequency estimation accuracy, without changing the bandwidth of the transmitted signal. So, we can improve the range estimation accuracy. The method is getting the approximate range of frequency peak of FMCW radar's beat frequency signal, using FFT. Then subdivide frequency in this range, by Chirp-Z transform. Thus we can get the high precision frequency estimation. The thesis also shows the realization of digital signal processing, based on TMS320VC5409 as the main processor and CPLD as the control the peripheral equipments. Each part of them is explained in detail. The last part is the software design of the system.
