The project described here is from a co-operational project with Ruixin Electrical Appliance Company. The aim of the project is to develop an appliance that can act as an equipment helping students to do lab work while they are studying the course of "Theory of Microcomputer and their Interfaces". The design of experiments was supposed to be closely combined with the textbook and could help students to realize and do more work than those shown on their textbooks. Except those for verifying what have learnt including applications of typical chips, the equipment should have the ability of realizing students' own design and making communications with PC. The assembler used is 8088/8086, and the user's interface to the equipment is Windows on PC. The interface should be clear, concise and easily manipulated, its functions should include inputting, debugging, correcting, and running the assembler, and being able to display the various states of the register and memory of 8088/8086 chip that are fed back from the equipment on line. Furthermore, the hardware circuit should be simple, its layout should be rational, and its reliability and robustness should be high enough.The project investigates various similar equipments on market. Important references include rich experience accumulated by many lecturers as their long time teaching and lab work. Foreign experiment teaching materials are also in our view. Thus, blocked structure is used in this design. And two kinds of experiments are designed, they are typical chips validated experiments and application system designs.The design of communications between the equipment and PC is composed of the monitor program on the circuit board of the equipment, the communication interface between the two and the debugging software installed in PC. The monitor program is important for the equipment, the monitoring program, the debugging software and their interface jointly complete functions that the experiment equipment should possess for doing experiments. The article discusses and contrasts several methods, we decide that the monitor program uses query mode to realize communications with PC through the serial interface. The debugging software is developed by Visual C++ and is a friendly Windows user's interface. The equipment, PC and their interface constitute the experiment system called "Theory of Microcomputer and Their Interfaces". 8088/8086 controls all experiment modules and feeds back various states of the register and memory in it to the debugging software. Both the hardware design and the software debugging have beenfinished and sample products have been seen on market.This project is still the design that mainly uses medium and small scale integrate circuits. In order to strengthen the reliability, robustness and secrecy of the circuit, some small scale PLD chips are used. PLD chips could simplify and optimize the design as well. The another advantage is that the reconstruction becomes easier when required.
