Car License Plate Recognition System And Its Mouth In The Smart Card Applications

With the high speed development of our national economy, there are more and more expressways in our country. The demand on the safe control of highways improves day by day. The intelligent toll-gate has already become one of the most important directions in modern traffic engineering domain. As the core of intelligent toll-gate, vehicle license plate recognition system plays a quite important role. However, the technology of license plate recognition system does not develop maturely and needs to be further researched so as it can be used in factual projects. This paper has researched license plate recognition system and its application in intelligent toll-gate. At first, making reference to engineering practice , the structure?working principle and hardware of intelligent toll-gate are discussed.Whereas the analysis of past solutions, this paper gives a method of license plate location. Base on the image pretreatment and horizontal difference edge detection, the license plate will be located with the combination of morphologic and both horizontal and vertical directions projection.After the image of license plate is extracted, it is preprocessed. Then, the image is divided into several single characters. At last, these characters are recognized with the Back Propagation Neural Network, whose performance is improved by some measures. Nowadays, there are more and more vehicles with two-row character license plate, so, at the end of this paper, an idea of recognition is given. The flow of algorithm can reach relatively good result, which is proved by a lot of experiments.
