MODIS is one of the most important detectors in series of satellites of the United States Earth Observation System (EOS). It is nowadays a new generation instrument of "image and spectrum unite as one" in the world, which represent the most advanced technique of carrying the satellites sensors and the remote sensing application.This paper did some researches mainly about the MODIS data processing and the monitoring of the Lancangjiang River valley ecosystem environment problems by using the MODIS data. At first, the author did the data processing of MODIS, for example, the geometric correction, resolution merge and so on. Then, we did the dynamic monitoring about the vegetation indices and the vegetation cover of the Lancangjiang River valley.And did the classification of the Lancangjiang River valley by using the MODIS data, and then estimated the classification result. Gathering the land investigate data of 1990 in Yunnan province, the land use/land cover change of Lancangjiang River valley is monitored by using the MODIS data. Then the author analyzed the influence of the change to the Lancangjiang River valley ecosystem environment. Finally the author analyzed and induced the factor of the land use/ cover change in Lancangjiang River valley, then brought up suggestions about how to use the land resources properly.The aim of the paper is to know the cover types and the change from the area scale of Lancangjiang River valley by 1-7 bands data of MODIS that include 250m resolutions and 500m resolutions. Then finding the reasons of change, the influence of the change to the Lancangjiang River valley ecosystem environment, and provide the foundation for how to use the land resources properly.
