Project management is an advanced management method, which is widely used in many fields according to its characters. With the development of information technology, it can be used in more cases, and can bring about more efficiencies. Now web based project management is one of the newest branches of project management, and its technology is one of the most important domains of project management technology study.Taking the project management of an aviation factory as our study object, and based on the consideration of current actuality of project management, a proposal of designing project management system on distributed groupware platform is put forward, which can improve system expandability and reusability. Then, a structure of the database subsystem and a model of the whole system is described. Finally, some proposals for system optimization is also presented.Focused on the characters of aviation industry project management, advantages of developing project management systems using the distributed groupware technology based on J2EE is interpreted, such as its simpleness, expandability, transplantability, reusability and so on. The system discussed before is analysed and modeled by means of using Unified Modeling Language (UML) . On this basis, the design and implementation of the system is studied in detail. Key problems to the implementation of such system are also discussed and their according resolutions are given.
