In order to enlarge the extent of software reuse and prepare for the industrialization of software, the Object Management Group (OMG) advanced a new framework named Model Driven Architecture (MDA). It allows developers to build systems according to their core business logic and data-independently of any particular hardware, operating system, or middleware. MDA promotes the creation of machine-readable, highly abstract models that are developed independently of the implementation technology and stored in standardized repositories. There, they can be accessed repeatedly and automatically transformed by tools into schemas, code skeletons, test harnesses, integration code, and deployment scripts for various platforms. However, it's a long way to go in order to apply the theory to practice. Aimming at apply MDA to the developing process of medium-sized software, this paper presents an extended developing mode of MDA based on practice. First, it sets forth the definition, core technology, developing step, study and the development status of MDA. Second, combining with the construction method of model in Domain Engineering, it interprets an extended developing mode of MDA. What is improved in this paper is that the extension divids the construction of PIM into two parts: the construction of domain framwork model and the construction of enterprise specific model. This is an effective method in the practice of MDA that improves the reusable and abstractive properties of PIM. Also, it gives an example: Comman Cement Domain Product Equipment Management Prototype System and makes a farther interpretation. At last, it introduces the design and implementation of a code autogenerator named ProjectManager.
