The implementation of spatio-temporal database system is based on spatio-temporal data modeling. This paper discusses the development of spatio-temporal data modeling in the spatio-temporal database and designes the two-level AVL-Tree spatio-temporal data model based on Realms for spatio-temporal database system-STADBSII. The underlayer spatial database of STADBSII is based on Realms and supports dual grid techonology. It can express spatial object discretely and avoid the complexity of spatial redrawing. The underlayer support makes it easier to implement efficient spatio-temporal management and spatio-temporal analysis operations.The spatio-tempral management subsystem stores, updates and searchs the spatio-temporal objects according to the two-level AVL-Tree data model. This organization of spatio-temporal data will improve the efficiency of update and search. When the STADBSII system is started, the whole spatio-temporal object-base is in the main memory. We uses main memory technology to arrange and visit spatio-temporal object-base.The spatio-temporal analysis operations are important functions of spatio-temporal database. This paper defines a lot of spatio-temporal analysis operations and describes them in different kinds. We also describe some algorithms of typical spatio-temporal analysis operations in detail.The spatio-temporal management subsystem is integrated with extensible DBMS PostgreSQL. We design and implement a complent spatio-temporal database prototype system, named STADBSII. This system can manage spatio-temporal data and non-spatio-temporal data efficiently, has powerful spatio-temporal analysis capability, and can keep the whole system self-contained and consistent. We also introduce the Spatio Temporal Query Language which is defined in the STADBSII system, and give some applications of STQL.At lase, for some flaws of STADBSII, we give out some new directions and approaches for further research.
