The theory of evidence is a kind of uncertainty reasoning, which has perfect performance in solving the problem of uncertainty. With the theory of evidence being widely used in data fusion and target recognition, conilicting evidence , correlative evidence and the generalizing of the theory of evidence are focus of application study of the theory of evidence. To solve the key problems of the theory of evidence, the main contributions are the follows:Firstly, the latest theory and application advances are summarized. The problems and solutions are analyzed, especially for realtime problems of application of the theory of evidence.Secondly, conflicting and correlative evidence are studied which are often in application. Several classical improved-methods are analyzed and compared. With a new conflicting factor being introduced, the robust range is analyzed. It is proposed that the key of dealing with conflicting evidence is conflicting distribution.Thirdly, the characteristic of the generalizing of the theory of evidence is discussed. The CDS and generalized evidence theory are introduced.Fourthly, several methods of forming basic belief assignment function are proposed and are applied to image target recognition with absorptive method and weighed distribution method. The result indicates that the recognition effect is satisfying after evidence are combined. Finally, in order to make further research, some prospects of evidence theory are proposed.
