With the explosive growth of the Internet and increasing demand for multimedia information on web, streaming video over the Internet has attracted tremendous attention from the academia and industry In this paper, we discuss a architecture for distributed video server that have a good scalability, which the system can grow with users' requirement. The aim of our study is to build a distributed VOD system that can manage a large amount of programs and serve a great number of subscribers in a wide area. The article comprises two main ideas,as follow: This paper mainly describes system model of distributed structure, which the whole system is divided into two parts, Program Center and On-Demand Center. Compared with traditional VOD system, service On-Demand is pushed toward the end of network, which can decrease demand of main network bandwidth when the system needs to cover the some large areas; meanwhile, it is benefit to expansion of the system and control of programs. It puts forward the method of load Balancing of distributed VOD server. This method solves how to realize coordination and service among multi-servers, which makes each On-Demand Center serve mass users effectively. At the same time in order to balance the load of I/O, distributed file storage technology is put forward; it can distribute the I/O load to every video server. This method is proved by the experiment of simulation.
