As a perfect vehicle on land, High Speed Maglev Vehicle (HSMV) is characterized by high velocity, less energy consuming, lower noise, safety and comfort etc. The gap sensor plays an important role for electromagnetic suspensive system which is a critical component of HSMV. In this paper a design and research method is developed and created for the gap sensor.On the base of analyzing main problems in designing the gap sensor for HSMV, some methods are given for resolving these problems such as tooth-groove-effect, electromagnetic interference, temperature excursion and dynamic response.Firstly, based on analyzing magnetic field produced by sensor coil the configuration of the coil is improved to weaken the tooth-groove-effect.Secondly, the source of Electromagnetic Interference is analyzed and a method of shield is given.Thirdly, temperature excursion is eliminated by choosing the circuit elements which are less affected by temperature.Fourthly, dynamic response is improved by reducing the Q-factor of the coil.Finally, a kind of gap sensor is made according to above ideas, and a calibration system for the gap sensor is simply introduced.
