As the technology entered the era of Deep-Submicron (DSM) technologies,the second order effects of CMOS device are having more and more influence on the performance of the CMOS logic circuits. This dissertation compared the performance of four popular logic families against MCML under DSM technology. From the comparison,we know that MCML is most suitable for working under low voltage supply among the logic families. This character of MCML makes it favorable for constructing low power circuits because lowering the source voltage is the most effective way to lower the power. Then,the dissertation proposed the MCML design theory on switch level. Based on this theory,several ternary MCML circuits are designed at switch level. The circuits are all simulated and have correct logic functions. The MCML circuits output low swing signal,while it is necessary to amplify it so as to interfacing the binary signal. An low-swing-signal-amplifying circuit is proposed in this dissertation to realize the interface. Finally,the design of low voltage low power current mode CMOS circuit is discussed,the design is base on a novel structure which converts serial switches to parallel switches,allows the circuits to perform under lower source voltage which makes low power consuming possible,examples and simulation results are also given to prove the low power character can be reached.
